Christmas in the Park Event Information
The Christmas in the Park celebration will take place Dec. 5 – Jan. 1, 2021 at Founders Park.
Presented by the Blue Plum Organization, in partnership with the City of Johnson City and BrightRidge Broadband and with the support of Town View of Johnson City; The Johnson City, Washington County, Jonesborough Chamber of Commerce; Shamrock and WJHL, the event will feature 65 holiday trees, each decorated by a local business or non-profit organization. Together these trees will tell the story of our community.
Johnson City reminds visitors to Christmas in the Park to follow safety precautions
The City of Johnson City and the Blue Plum Organization are asking visitors to Christmas in the Park to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines including wearing face coverings, observing physical distancing, following directional signage and limiting group sizes.
Local businesses and organizations decorated 65 trees which are illuminated at night. The Christmas in the Park celebration will take place at Founders Park through Jan. 1, 2021. This event replaces the annual Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree lighting which were canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. There is no admission charge for the event.
“Christmas in the Park has proven to be the pick-me-up our community needs during this difficult time,” said Johnson City Mayor Jenny Brock. “So many events have had to be canceled or postponed during the pandemic. We are thrilled to have found a way to still be able to celebrate this holiday season with Christmas in the Park but we need people to do so safely to ensure we can successfully carry out the event through the end of the year.”
The Blue Plum Organization and the City of Johnson City remind visitors to Christmas in the Park that masks are required on City property. Groups should be limited to members of the same household and should remain 6 feet from others as they walk along the path in a counter-clockwise direction through the park.
Decoration Guidelines & Rules
Tree Decoration Guidelines:
Ornaments should be well made, wind and water-resistant.
Avoid using food (i.e., pasta) and paper as ornament decorations, as they will not withstand inclement weather.
Keep in mind your tree will be approximately 12 feet tall. We recommend the ornaments be large so they can be seen from the vehicles.
Use sturdy ties to attach ornaments to your tree to prevent them from being blown or knocked off the tree. Standard ornament hangers will not be adequate.
Groups will need to bring their own tools such as pliers, scissors, ladder, etc., to help with the decorating process.
Please remember that this is "tree decorating". There will not be room around your tree for large decor items or cutouts.
All trees must be decorated on-site at Founders Park.
No vehicles are allowed into the park area. Please bring what you need to carry, pull, or push decorations to your assigned location.
Be creative! We anticipate the decorated trees to be unique to each organization or business.
Keep in mind, the trees will be viewed from all sides. Be sure to decorate the entire tree.
Tree Decoration Rules:
Lights will be provided. Additional lights are not allowed to be added.
No profanity or inappropriate or offensive decor is allowed on tree decorations.
No candles or flammable items.
An identification sign for your organization or business will be provided for each tree. This will be placed at the base of the tree. No other signs will be allowed. The sign will include a QR code for voting. Do not remove the signs.
Painting and flocking of trees are strictly prohibited.
Decorations must not contain any inappropriate or offensive language and or symbols.
Do not use water-soluble glue on ornaments. Spray any fabrics with Scotch Guard to prevent mildew.
I understand that the Blue Plum Organization has the sole discretion to prohibit my participation for failing to comply with the guidelines and rules set forth above.
